Rtv6 THEINDYCHANNEL recently featured some talented, hard-working MSD of Wayne Township students who are enrolled in the two-year in the construction trades class at the Area 31 Career Center. These students are involved in a project building a three-bedroom, two-bath home in the Drexel Gardens neighborhood. The local pastor at Drexel Gardens Christian Church expressed the opinion that their work “gives people here hope.”
This housing opportunity is made possible thanks to the hard working students and the partnership created with Indy Way, that purchased the land. Construction is scheduled to be complete in May. The construction trades class at the Area 31 Career Center “where passions become professions” is a two-year program that provides students the opportunity to earn up to 18 hours of college credit while participating in the program. The dual credit course work includes Introduction to Construction, Construction Materials and Specifications, Exterior Trim, Roof Construction, and Floor and Wall Layout.
Indiana’s urban schools offer Hoosier students a rich array of programs, services, and opportunities. IUSA appreciates the opportunity to share the stories that demonstrate what the schools have to offer and the many successes their students, faculty and staff achieve.
