Mishawaka Schools, long committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate preschool program for 3 to 5-year-old children, announced that its Growing Together Preschool achieved Level 3 Paths to QUALITY™ Certification from Indiana Family and Social Services Administration. Mishawaka Schools.
“It is the mission on School City of Mishawaka to high quality inclusive services to preschool age students,” said Barb Michalos, Director of Exceptional Learners, and Mishawaka Preschool Education Programs. “Today we are proud to announce Mishawaka’s Growing Together Preschool has achieved a Level 3 Paths to QUALITY™ Certification from Indiana Family and Social Services Administration,” Michalos continued. In addition, School City of Mishawaka is the only public school in St. Joseph County to achieve this distinction.
Since 2013, Indiana has been collecting data concerning the school readiness of children in relation to their early childhood educational experiences. A two-year study conducted by Purdue University comparing preschoolers in higher vs. lower rated quality care showed those in higher-rated care gained school readiness skills at a faster rate, and by about 5 years of age had attained skills at or above the national norm. Level 1 certification includes health and safety requirements and proper adult/child ratios. Level 3 certification includes requirements for professional development and higher education for staff members, facilitating adult/child interactions, and intentionally planning curriculum that supports the young child’s social emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
It is well documented that quality early childhood education leads to brighter futures for all children, and we are honored to be entrusted with such an important responsibility. This means for every family, there’s a path to trusted child care and peace of mind, and more children in our area will have access to high quality preschool. Growing Together Preschool, through School City of Mishawaka is now an eligible CCDF (Child Care Development Fund) and On My Way Pre-K site.
