Five administrative appointments were approved by the MSD of Lawrence Township School. Congratulations and welcome to Mariatu (Mari) A. Swayne, Natalie Schneider, Carla Johnson, Carl Blythe, and Daniel (Dan) Kuznik:

  • Ms. Mariatu (Mari) A. Swayne, Director of McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology. Mrs. Swayne will formally transition to this new role on July 1, 2018 from that of Director of the Pike Career & STEM Center in the MSD of Pike Township. Prior to that role, she served as an Assistant Principal at Pike High School, Dean of Students at Pike High School, and Director & Instructor of Business and IT at the Pike Career Academy. She will be the first female and African American to serve as Career & Technical Education (CTE) Director at McKenzie.  Superintendent, Dr. Shawn Smith shares, “The CTE Program in the MSD of Lawrence Township is second to none. Ms. Swayne brings a wide range of professional experiences and is determined to cultivating an inclusive atmosphere committed to excellence.   • Ms. Natalie Schneider, Principal of Crestview Elementary School, effective July 1, 2018. Ms. Schneider comes to Crestview from Skiles Test Elementary, where she has served as the Assistant Principal since 2015.  Superintendent, Dr. Shawn Smith  welcomed Ms. Schneider to her new position stating “I believe the Crestview community will be impressed with the experience and skills that Ms. Schneider will bring to Crestview Elementary.   • Mrs. Carla Johnson, Director of Elementary Academics. Mrs. Johnson will officially transition to this new role on July 1, 2018. Having spent the entirety of her career in the MSD of Lawrence Township, she most recently served as building principal at Mary Castle Elementary for the past eight years. In 2016, she was celebrated as the MSD of Lawrence Township District Administrator of the Year. Before moving to Mary Castle, she served as principal at both Skiles Test and Crestview Elementary. Her classroom teaching experience was at Forest Glen and Brook Park Elementary Schools.  Superintendent, Dr. Shawn Smith said, “This new position under our Chief Academic Officer will support our commitment to academic excellence through the implementation of all aspects of the district strategic plan related to elementary curriculum, instruction, professional development, and data.” He adds, “Mrs. Johnson is already a valued member of the district administrative team and the Lawrence Township community.   • Mr. Carl Blythe, principal at Mary Castle Elementary School, effective July 1. For the past two years, he served as Mary Castle’s Assistant Principal. While having previously been employed in the school corporation as a teacher on special assignment, Mr. Blythe returned to the MSD of Lawrence Township from Washington Township in 2016, where he served as the Assistant Principal of Greenbriar Elementary School.  Superintendent, Dr. Shawn Smith welcomed Mr. Blythe, noting “I believe we have selected the best person to continue leading Mary Castle on the path to successful teaching and learning.   • Mr. Daniel (Dan) Kuznik, Director of Secondary Academics. Mr. Kuznik will officially transition to this new role on July 1, 2018 from that of Principal of Lincoln Middle School in the MSD of Pike Township, where he served for the past six years. Before that time, he was Assistant Principal at Guion Creek Middle School. His teaching experience is in Mathematics at both Pike High School and the Pike Freshman Center. Superintendent, Dr. Shawn Smith said that “This new position under our Chief Academic Officer will support our commitment to academic excellence through the implementation of all aspects of the district strategic plan related to secondary curriculum, instruction, professional development, and data.” He adds, “Mr. Kuznik’s proven track record of instructional leadership makes him a great resource for our secondary principals and an outstanding fit for this new position.”  Follow the link to read more, including a brief bio for Mr. Kuznik.
