Congratulations to Lawrence North sophomore swimmer, Brooke Atkins in MSD Lawrence Township
Brooke Atkins was selected to join another 47 U.S. athletes to participate in a three-day camp program, the USA Swimming Diversity Select Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center! There she and fellow team members come together for pool training, motivational and education sessions and team-building activities. Brooke will be representing the Lawrence Swim Team, the USA Swimming affiliated swim club based out of Lawrence North and Lawrence Central High Schools since 1977.
Ms. Atkins recently won the IHSAA sectional in the 200 IM with a Lawrence North school and sectional record time of 2:06.16. She also won the 100 backstroke with a school record time of :57.09, eclipsing the mark set back in 1995 by All-American Melissa Bromley. She placed 13thoverall at the IHSAA state meet in the 100 backstroke.
Also invited to attend the event is her club and high school coach, Tom Burchill. Burchill has been the head coach for the Lawrence Swim Team and Lawrence North High School since 2012. He won a national swimming championship in 2004 while coaching the Carmel Greyhounds, and was inducted into the Indiana High School Swimming & Diving Hall of Fame in 2007.
