Earlier this week, Decatur Central’s Choice Community hosted the Jefferson Awards Students in Action Conference where Senator Donnelly was the keynote speaker. Over 250 students from Central Indiana attended and participated in a day of social action training.

Decatur Central was selected to host the Jefferson Awards Students in Action Conference recognizing Morgan Wade, one of three national finalists for the Jefferson Awards Lead 360 Campaign.  Morgan created a project that provides care packages for children in the foster system. Morgan’s project will become a signature service event for Jefferson Awards Students In Action regional sites. Morgan, and 3 of her classmates attended the Jefferson Awards Ceremony and Reception in Washington DC.

Decatur Central High School is comprised of 5 small learning communities, each with about 350 students. Each community focuses their studies around a common theme. The Choice Small Learning Community focuses on Service Learning. Students participating in the Students in Action conference were asked to bring a donation of toiletries. The conference collected enough supplies to make over 1,000 toiletry care packages!
