School districts, like other organizations across the nation, are expressing concern about changes to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Recently, Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) shared their Board of Trustee’s statement on DACA. In addition to their public re-commitment to serving all students in an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment they state their commitment to serving all children regardless of the students’, students’ parents’/guardians’, or eligible students’ immigration status to providing a quality, safe, caring, nurturing, learning environment for each and every student. Finally, the statement outlines a number of local resources where people can go to have questions answered or get assistance.

Indiana’s urban schools have strong connections with their school communities. This is demonstrated by their continuing care for the well-being of the children and families they serve.
