Mishawaka High School teacher, Jessica Deckard Mann, asked her students on the first day of school, “What’s the nicest thing you ever did for someone else?” She said that the generosity shown by the responses from the class of students who will graduate in 2019 was so overwhelming that she wanted to share them with the community. She compiled their stories into a book. The book cover design and illustrations in the book were created by students, and the title is the result of student votes on the 130 suggestions submitted by the students. “Good Teens Good Deeds” is available online where it is described as a compilation of the honest and raw writings from the students.
The generosity goes beyond what the students describe as the nicest thing they’ve ever done for someone. The students decided that proceeds from their book sale will be given to The United Way of St. Joseph County.
The books will be on sale for $5.00 at the School City of Mishawaka Administration Center or online at lulu.com. Within 6-8 weeks, the books will also be available at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com
