You may think there is nothing unusual about students speaking at a state conference. However, last week’s appearance by students from the Giant Wildcat Academy was a very special event. The students from Giant Wildcat Academy (GWA) in Marion Community Schools, are students with disabilities. They were invited to speak during the Indiana Council of Administrators of Special Education’s (ICASE) annual conference in Indianapolis. They shared information about the GWA program and the special opportunities they experience. The program partners with Indiana Wesleyan University gives students with disabilities an opportunity to explore the world outside the high school. The conference in Indianapolis afforded these youngsters an opportunity to travel and speak before an audience of professionals from across the state.
