As a safe alternative to the national school walk-outs, schools throughout the Fort Wayne Community Schools are planning walk-ins.  In the media release Krista J. Stockman, APR, the district’s Public Information Officer, shared that “Principals have been working with student representatives to plan a safe way for students to participate, if the students so choose. Students will neither be encouraged nor discouraged from participating in the event.”  At New Tech Academy at Wayne High School, students will write on a pledge wall as part of the “What’s your 17?” initiative.

Ms. Stockman added, “The idea is to focus on what students can do to build the culture of a school so students don’t turn to violence or causing harm to themselves or others.”

Indiana’s urban schools are caring communities that offer Hoosier students a rich array of programs, services, and opportunities. IUSA appreciates the opportunity to share the stories that demonstrate what the schools have to offer and the many successes their students, faculty and staff achieve.
