Fort Wayne Community Schools staff members again this year launched a door-to-door campaign visiting homes throughout the district, reaching out to families during the summer to say hello and remind them to complete online pre-registration. This is the seventh year FWCS staff has visited families at their homes during the summer.
“The day we go door-to-door throughout the city is always a fun day,” said Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson. “Our staff members enjoy getting out to see our families; and the children love to see their teachers, assistants and principals arrive at their house. We are a part of this community, and we want to make sure our families don’t feel forgotten during the summer months.”
The door-to-door campaign kicks off today from each Fort Wayne Community Schools high school (Northrop, North Side, Snider, South Side and Wayne) at 4:15 p.m. with staff members out in the community into the evening hours.
Joyce McCartney, Public Affairs Associate at FWCS reminds families that online pre-registration is available to current families through July 8 via the MyFWCS parent portal on the FWCS website, www.fortwayneschools.org. Families will still need to attend in-school registration, but if they complete the pre-registration online, they will be able to go through the Rapid Registration line. In-school registration will be from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, July 27, and noon-7 p.m. Monday, July 30. Parents will need to bring a photo ID and two proofs of residence. New families can register any time at the Family & Community Engagement Center.
Indiana’s urban schools have strong connections with their school communities and they are strong community partners. The door-to-door campaign in FWCS is one example of this. IUSA appreciates the opportunity to share this and many successes that IUSA member districts’ students, faculty and staff achieve.
