As reported in The Elkhart News last week, Bristol Elementary School is home to a preschool program bringing much-needed daycare opportunities to families in Elkhart Community Schools.
Elkhart School Superintendent, Robert Haworth entered into a unique partnership with Growing Kids, a privately-owned preschool program with a dozen sites across northern Indiana. This resulted in opening a preschool program at Bristol Elementary offering local families a viable early childhood educational opportunity for their children. The building hosts Head Start and Growing Kids programs, and offers extended hours for many of the children served.
Growing Kids local director, Heather Miller, acknowledged the innovative thinking by Dr. Haworth noting that when they were contacted, “this [partnership]was the first of it’s [sic] kind and we really needed to use out-of-the-box thinking.”
