Congratulations to Beech Grove students in their success at the FFA Area 6 Forestry and Entomology contest
As reported in the Beech Grove Hornet Blast by Mrs. Barkman, Beech Grove High School Science Department, Daniel Newton received the honor of top individual, Ashlynn Morelock placed 3rd, and Allison Merritt placed 8th. Having three individuals in the top 10 secured their team 1st place in the entomology contest and they will be advancing to the state competition December 10th at Purdue University.
In the forestry contest, Julia Reel and Lilian Ferguson placed in the top ten One BGHS forestry team placed 3rd overall and will move on to the state contest, and the other team was eighth overall. The junior team competing in forestry also did very well. Jade Pender placed 5th overall and the team placed 1st overall, which advances them to the state contest.
In the entomology contest, students identify insects by their common name, order, and complete a written exam. In the forestry contest, students identify leaves, seeds, and woods, by their common name and complete a written exam. In both contests students compete as individuals and in teams of four.
According to their website, Indiana FFA has more than 11,000 members making a positive impact on hundreds of communities across the state. FFA provides high school student with challenging opportunities to develop leadership skills, problem-solving skills, and explore potential career opportunities.
