Congratulations to Kristen Chitty, Columbus Signature Academy: Fodrea Campus, in Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) who received the Edna V. Folger Outstanding Teacher Award.
As shared by BCSC, a colleague states – “She is an irreplaceable asset at our school and touches the lives of students, parents, and peers on a daily basis.” She is a “relationship builder” who collaborates with the K-6 classroom teachers, always focused on doing what is best for ALL students and doing whatever it takes to ensure success for every student.
A parent praised Ms. Chitty, saying “She researched and integrated cutting-edge instructional practices designed for individuals with Dyslexia and helped our son become a confident reader who is now on the honor roll.”
Ms. Chitty received the 2013 ARC of Bartholomew County Teacher of the Year Award. She coaches the Math Bowl Team at her school, helps with the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, regularly attends extra-curricular activities, and still has time to teach college courses and volunteer at Love Chapel. She is a role model to other educators who use her planning methods and instructional approaches to engage their students. She has an extraordinary knack for explaining difficult concepts in a manner that all students can understand – – commonly known as the “Mrs. Chitty method.”
The Edna V. Folger Outstanding Teacher Award is in memory of Edna Folger, who set the early standard for teachers. In her honor, the award was designed to raise awareness about the immeasurable influence teachers have on their students and to recognize the image of teachers as important community role models. The award includes a stipend, a personal award from the IUPUC Center for Teaching and Learning, and adding the recipient’s name to a permanent plaque located in the Columbus Learning Center.
Congratulations to Ms. Chitty as this year’s winner of the Edna V. Folger Outstanding Teacher Award Winner.
